New and revised palynological data for the Otway Basin 1 1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY As part of Geoscience Australia’s work program, the Petroleum and Marine Division initiated a collaborative study of the Otway Basin (Figure 1) with Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) and the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Victoria. Otway basin: Minerva. Minerva came on stream in early The field is located in VIC/L22 permit, approximately 10km from Port Campbell in 60m of water. The development is operated by BHP Billiton (90%) on behalf of Santos (10%). It was discovered in by the Minerva 1 exploration well.

The Otway Basin in western Victoria is an E–W trough initiated early in the Mesozoic period (see Chapter 9) and contains a thick sequence of Mesozoic and .   A closer look at Otway Basin’s rocks. The Victorian Government is working to deliver a better picture of the state’s gas resources, analysing rocks in Victoria’s south-west. There is little geological information about the Penola Trough – which runs west from Casterton across the South Australian Border – and a new project intends to.

The task was to review and supplement the current biostratigraphic dataset for the onshore Otway Basin in Victoria. This project was the result of a collaborative effort with Stephen Gallagher, Fabian Stanislaus and Vera Korasidis from The University of Melbourne, and Mike Macphail from the Australian National University.

A major review of the biostratigraphy (the study of fossils to date rock formations) of the onshore Otway Basin was undertaken as part of the Victorian Gas Program (VGP). The study was conducted in two parts: (1) a palynology study and (2) a study of micropalaeontology.

This report details the findings of the palynology component of the study. VIC/P76 comprises an area of km 2 in the offshore Otway Basin, surrounded by commercial gas discoveries, including the Septemam January 8, Otway Basin mooring chains fail The offshore Otway gas exploration program located off the Victorian coast has experienced a setback following the failure of two mooring chains.

The Otway, Bass and Gippsland Basins of southeastern Australia were initiated by the rifting and continental breakup between Australia and Antarctica in Late Jurassic through Early Cretaceous times. Rifting in the Otway Basin was accompanied by rapid subsidence and basin-wide deposition of the fluviatile Otway Supergroup (typically ∼3–5-km thick), with.

No, we don't," Mr Kay told The Australian Financial Review. The Andrews government said on Wednesday it planned to open up five new gas fields offshore from Victoria's Otway Basin, including some.

Instead, the distribution and timing of the magmatism is more likely to be related to edge-driven convection at least in some places like the Bight Basin. This review forms part of the first step towards a better understanding of igneous activity along the southern margin, intraplate magmatism in general and the effects on petroleum exploration.

Otway Basin is not sampled by wells beyond the edge of the shelf, however the velocities calculated from sonic logs for the offshore Inner Otway Sub-basin (Appendix 1) show close agreement with the stacking velocity derived data taken from proximal shotpoint locations from intersecting sesimic lines.

The Otway Basin offers an excellent opportunity to examine late CO2-derived cements as an analogue for mineralogical storage of CO2. Understanding Otway Basin diagenesis and carbonate cement distribution is .
